What does a hit mean?

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Hits, web page views, visits, visitors, “What the hell does all of this stuff mean?” If you have your own website.

Then I sure that you’ve heard of these words on more than one occasion, and probably (like most people), are still in the dark about their true meaning.

In this article. I will explain to you what the difference is between a hit and a web page view without using.

To many technical terms and Geek speak. But first, let me answer your question.

Do You Need More Hits To Your Website?

 Quick answer, YES and NO

A hit, as you understand it is, when somebody visits your website. But in reality a hit is a file sent to a browser by a web server.

Just to add to the confusion.

There are also 2 type of hits for you  to consider. The first one being hits recorded by log files.

The second is ‘hits’ which are counted and displayed by a simple hit counter.

It would be far to time consuming for me to explain in this article the difference between the 2 types of hits.

So , I will explain what web page views are instead.

A page view is each time a visitor views a page on your website, regardless of how many hits are generated.

Pages are comprised of files. Every image in a page is a separate file.

When a visitor looks at a page (a page view), they may see… numerous images, graphics, pictures etc. and generate multiple hits.

”Let’s say for example.” that your web page has 10 pictures. What happens next is a request is sent to a sever. To view the page generated.

The result  is,  that your web page will get a total of 11 hits. 10 for the pictures, and one for the html file.

You must also remember that any single page view can contain hundreds of hits. Just by looking at this example it is clear to see.

That hits are not a true and accurate way of measuring how much traffic is coming to your website.

Page views and unique visitors is what you should pay special attention to.

I have Google Analytics installed on my blog. Which is a excellent free tracking tool.

With it, I am able to track visits, bounce rates, traffic sources, and a ton of other stuff. Including page views and unique visitors.

So in closing this article.

You  should now know how important it is to track all visitors to your website and…

…that Hits in and of themselves are nearly meaningless. Only hits that lead to results are of true value.

5 Link Building Techniques That Still Work

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Starting a web page or website is very easy. But getting quality one way back links to your site is not. You can speed up this boring and tedious task. By simply using a free or paid link exchange service.

Maybe. you have already tried the link exchange services, and have got very poor results from them.

If you have, I can’t really say that I’m  all that surprised because… somebody probably told you that this link building lark is easy. “Let me tell you something.”

“I no longer have any faith in the word EASY.”

In Affiliate Marketing circles you hear the word easy being banded about endlessly.

All of the so called GURU’S use it to sell products to you that are supposedly meant to help you.

Now. I am not writing this article to slag off any Affiliate Marketer in particular. (even though I could)

I am simply writing this blog post to inform you about what link building techniques I use that work for me, and more importantly.

I believe will still work for many years to come.

So, without further delay, and in no particular order.

Here are my top five link building techniques.

1)Quality Content If you want to attract good quality back links to your website, then make sure that you always have good quality content for your visitors to read.

I don’t care how well search engine friendly your page is.

Without good content, your website will die a slow death.

Content is the glue that holds everything together, and its the number 1 thing that must be present on your website at all times.

2)Video Marketing Submitting my videos to video directories is something that I do quite regularly.

I would say that my results so far has been steady but not spectacular.

How popular your video becomes on You Tube is more down to luck than anything else, as I have already stated in a earlier blog post.

One thing that I must add though, is that I get plenty of quality back links from video marketing.

It is something that you could easily do yourself.

There are some excellent free and low cost video software and services that you can use. Such as Animoto and Jing.

Both of which I use myself. Animoto - The End of Slideshows After completing your short video. You can automate the video submission process by using websites such as heyspread.com and tubemogul.com

Video Marketing is big right now and I can only see it growing bigger and better.

 3) RSS aggregators Submitting my RSS feeds to RSS aggregators has given me a lot of back links.

It is a little-known seo link building technique that works very well for me. RSS aggregators are sites like feedagg.com that re-publish the entire content of your RSS feed on their own site.

So any links present in those RSS feeds show up on these RSS aggregators! To get the best results from this tactic.

You will need to have a decent amount of good quality content on your website first, before submitting your Rss feed.

Otherwise it will be rejected. 4)Social bookmarking my site Practically everyone in Affiliate Marketing is talking about Web 2.0 or is it 3.0

Which basically means adding more social networking in the promoting of your website or product.

Apparently. Google wants you to be far more active online than ever before.

You can no longer just put up a simple squeeze page or website with no real value, and get long term profits like you use to a few years ago.

You now have to be actively involved online in many of the popular Social Networking sites like Facebook, Digg and Stumbleupon if you want to keep your Google page rank.

5)Creating free blogs on authority sites This is one of the best ways for you to get started in Affiliate Marketing, and it is far more easier than managing your own blog.

I have a free blog on blogger.com, hubpages, and until recently Squidoo.

These websites are great for seo link building because they already have great authority with Google.

Since these websites have thousands (sometimes millions) of links coming to the domain.

Creating a blog on these sites means that your blog will have existing authority. Without much link building, it can be lingering on the first page of search results pretty quick.

It is because of these benefits that many people choose not to purchase their own domain. Instead, they prefer to create entire blogs on these websites and then…

…direct traffic to the pages that they have just created.

This system works really well but, if you decide to follow this route. Remember that your blog will be owned by the website owner and not yourself.

So there you have it,  5 powerful ways to get links to your site that will help you rank in the search engines.

If you’re not using any of the 5 methods above, make sure you get started right away!

How To Use Cheap Advertising

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Do you currently have your own web site, and are you wondering why it is only getting a trickle amount of traffic, instead of a FLOOD

If I were to take a shot in the dark about why this is happening. I would say that Its probably because you are not advertising your web site effectively.

There are many cost effective methods that you can use to get more traffic  to your web site.

One of the best is Traffic Exchanges.

Yes! “I know that you’ve tried them before and thought that they were crap.”

But they really do work, and you can get great results.

Providing that you don’t waste your time on doing silly things,  like surfing for hours on end for credits.

One of the most important things for you to understand about using Traffic Exchanges is that its all about visibility.

What I mean by this is that you want your web site to be seen by as many eye balls as possible.

You might be thinking that what I have just told you is obvious.

But is it?

“Can you honestly tell me that your web site is being seen by visitors. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 day a year?”

I didn’t think so but…

For the most part, this is what you want,  if you want to see any real rewards on the Traffic Exchanges.

You may recall that I said that surfing for credits is almost a complete waste of time. Unless of course, you like surfing for the odd free gift and a bit of cash.

You will get much better results on the Traffic Exchanges if you focus your efforts on building a active downline who will do most of you’re surfing for you.

Building your downline is not as hard as it looks.

All you generally have to do is upgrade your free membership to a higher level.

Depending on which Traffic Exchanges you are currently using at this moment in time. Upgrading your account has 2 major advantages over a free membership, which are…

1) Free additional credits added monthly

2) Random referrals added monthly

“Think about It for a minute”.The more credits you have at your disposal, the more you can advertise your business.

The more referals you have in your downline, the more credits they will earn for you.

Saving time is the name of the game when it comes to using Traffic Exchanges.

I don’t know about you but, I haven’t got the time or patience to surf everyday for page views to my web site.

Been there done that and its a whole heap of crap. “Have you noticed that this sentence rhymes.”

But, joking apart.

You cannot expect people to find your web site, or more importantly expect to earn enough money from it. If you only use free methods.

“YOU MUST INVEST IN YOUR BUSINESS.”

What I have just revealed to you in this article works for me, and it will work for you to.

But before I go, I want to tell you another thing that you must do to get the best possible results from Traffic Exchanges.

Just be creative. Using your imagination will take you a long way in advertising your web site on Traffic Exchanges.

I’m not going to lie to you.

It will take a fair bit of you’re time before you get the results that you want but, the wait will be worth it.
