Are You Accepting Guest Blog Posts?

When is the right time to allow guest posts on your blog?

I will admit to you right now.

That I don’t really know the answer to my own question.

The reason I don’t know is because.

Not all bloggers are the same. Some produce more content than others.

They also blog about a variety of different things.

Let’s say for example.

That your blog has content written from a  highly specialized and personal point of view.

Then the chances are…

…that you would not want any Tom, Dick, or Harry writing anything on it.

In the beginning of my blogging journey.

I convinced myself that I had to be a total control freak, and write all of the content myself.

I now know, taking that approach was wrong.

Because this blog is about making money from Affiliate Marketing, and not a diary of my life.

That is why I have finally made the decision (Jan 2013)  to allow guest posts on my blog.

If you are already doing this .You must be wondering how come it took me so long to get with the program.

All I can say to you in my defense,  is that I’m a slow learner. But now that I am fully on board with the whole thing, I can only see good times ahead in the coming years.

However, I will be taking quality control of  all submitted content very seriously. There is no way that I will ever allow my blog to be completely over run by guest posts.

The last thing that I want is to turn this site into some low quality article directory.

Having my own personal platform to voice my views and opinions is still very important to me.

I know that I could easilly just accept every guest post request, regardless of the subject matter.

But in the end, that would be doing my site more harm than good. It would also defeat the purpose of  me allowing guest posts in the first place.

What do you think, am I right?

Hi Paul. I run an affiliate marketing blog and have also recently decided to accept guest posts. It has worked pretty well. The only downside is receiving lots of low quality submissions from people who clearly haven’t read your requirements. The worst is when a person sends a terrible post and they keep amending it and resending it only slightly better. You can waste a lot of time with some of these people. I have took the decision that if a post is not within my guidelines for basic things such as length, then I will not bother to reply to tell them they have been rejected. They haven’t bothered to read what I require so I don’t bother to reply to them. This saves a lot of time!

Hi Jon, thanks for leaving a comment. Yeah you are right about people not bothering or not paying attention to guest post guidelines rules.

All of the guest posting submissions that I have received so far, have been sent to me by email attachment.

They do this, despite me telling them that the way to submit an article for review is to login at my site and post it there.

I always think about blogging. I also picture myself as a successful blogger with lots of blogs about anything under the sun as much as possible. Well, starting as a a guest in writing blog posts is not also a bad idea. Lemme think…

Hi Paul. I’m also a blogger and like you, i want all the contents in my blog to be all mine. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make money with that so I had to sacrifice a bit and therefore, I compromised.

I think you’re right. Also, there could be a tendency that our readers will lose the idea of how awesome your posts are when your blog is already filled with guest post every now and then. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I think to decide whether to allow guest posts or not on your blog, depends on you and the type of contents you write. If it will do you better to allow guest post, then it’s good. If you get good benefits and you’re happy about it, then maybe you are right. 🙂
