Do You Really Need A Domain Name?

“You will get no beating about the bush from me about where I stand on this topic.” If you are serious about your online business. Then having your own domain name is an absolute must.

You might be thinking that, because of the ever increasing rise in popularity on websites. Such as Twitter and Facebook. Having your own domain has become less important.

Google have their own free website service called Blogger. WordPress is another popular service where you can get a free website.

If you have been following my blog for a while.

Then you will already know that I use and rate both of these services.

But at the end of the day. it all boils down to what type of customers you want to attract to your business.

In Affiliate Marketing. You can get away with, to a certain degree. Without having a domain name.

However. If you want to attract the corporate or professional crowd. You will definetly need a little help from a domain name registration service.

In life, and in business. You are constantly being judged… sized up by people who you don’t even know. “It is. Whether you like it or not.  Just the way of the world that we are living in.

All visitors that come to your website are looking for signs that you are a leader,  and actually know what you are talking about.

So what does all of this have to do with registering a domain name?

“In a word “Everything”

Professional people prefer to do business with other professionals. So they probably will not be to impressed with a free and cheap looking website.

Showing them that you have your own domain, is the first step in gaining their trust. But in the grand scheme of things, it means much more than that.

Branding yourself is crucial to long term success.

Nothing online does it better than a domain, that describes what your business is about.

This is a important point, don’t make the classic newbie mistake of choosing a domain that just sounds totally different to any name that you’ve ever heard of,

“Trust me when I say that an unusual sounding name is something that you will live to regret later on down the road.”

You need to spend as much time as you can when choosing a domain name for your business.

Doing good keyword research first is the most important thing that you need to do.

If you are thinking of building a website about Affiliate Marketing or anything to do with Internet Marketing in general.

Then I must warn you that most, if not all of the best domain names have been taken already.

I found that out for myself when I first started this website. Virtually every name connected with online business, online marketing ,business etc.

“Had been goobled up like a christmas turkey.”

Eventually I had to settle for a hyphenated version of the domain that I really wanted.

So. I want to became,  I-want-to-know-marketing .com

This slight change has turned out well for me, in terms of getting fresh visitors to my website.

After all. People always want to know something about something, and I already know from personal experience.

That the three most important elements of getting targeted traffic from the Google search engine are.

  • A well thought out domain that accurately describes your business.
  • Good original regularly updated content that will attract visitors.
  •  A SEO website with proper keyword meta description and tags.

Having a free website is great for earning a little extra money to pay the bills.

But. You really need at least one paid for domain to be taken seriously online.

Is there a WordPress plugin that enables you to convert a web site into another language? I want my mother to read this blog but she can only read in Polish.

      Hello Friend

I am not sure if wordpress has a plugin. That does language translation. But I do know that Yahoo has a service called Babel fish.

Which could be the answer to your problem.

Google also has a free translation service. That usually appears automatically. Whenever you browse a non English website.

So there is a good chance that your mother could translate my website. In to Polish. With just a click of a button.

Before to get the Domain you have to be sure that is your keyword analyze and been filters in terms of good visitors a day and there's money in that keyword/domain to start with.

      Hello Friend

I'm not so sure about looking for a domain that has money in it from the beginning. As it will probably be too expensive for you to purchase.

I think that you should concentrate on buying a domain that actually describes what your web site is about.

  9. having your own domain setup gives more credibility, which improves the chances of selling online, compared to blogs that are only put up through blogspot, and other blogging platform. I see most affiliate marketers who just buy a domain name that are specifically named after the niche they are engaging with, though they don't really setup a site for those domains, they just redirect it to the sales page of the promoted product. it's an easy online business model, though I don't really recommend this method.

      Hi Jason

      Thanks for leaving a comment.

I could not agree with you more. On the points you have just made on domain names. Affiliate Marketers use this tactic a lot in PPC marketing.
