If you have been involved in Internet Marketing or Affiliate Marketing for any length of time. It must or will cross your mind at some point.
To consider becoming a web marketing consultant.
Why wouldn’t you. After all there is a huge demand for this service. And it is very easy to get started.
Compared to Affiliate Marketing. Web consultancy is a stroll in the park.
Or is it?
Before you get too carried away with this idea. Here are 4 things that you need to know.
1)You Will Always Lose Clients
There are a lot of web consultancy firms around. There are also a lot of Individual consultants and bullshit artists.
This means plenty of competition and plenty of choice for companies interested in using consultancy services.
Ultimately. What all of this competition means is.
That you will lose a fair amount of your clients to someone else.
Its just the name of the game.
You can slow down the rate of losing clients by around 50%. By simply being better prepared.
The first thing that you should do is.
Set your client straight about what you are going to do. To help their business.
Don’t go down the path of the bullshit marketing consultant. Forever promising more than they can deliver.
Schedule a 5 minute weekly call with all of your clients. Keep them informed of what you have done for that week.
Follow that up with a monthly report. That shows how you have increased their productivity and sales.
2) Your Client is Not Always Right
Before begining your new career as a web marketing consultant.
You need to ask yourself.
“How much crap are you prepared to take.”
“Speaking for myself.” I do not take a lot. I have been offered consultancy jobs.
That pay upwards of £40,000. For me to manage.5 to 10 different web sites.
I always turn these type of offers down. Because I know that the client in question.
Will want me at his/her beck and call night and day.
I’m not afraid of hard work but.
Believe me when I tell you that. Managing just 2 web sites properly is. More work than most people can handle.
You might view things differently from me.
And be willing and able. To sign your social life away. By committing yourself to 18 hour days. 7 days a week.
Just for the pleasure. Of working for someone. Who has no respect for you
If that is your choice. All I can say is “Rather you than me” Remember that your client is
“NOT YOUR BOSS”
Even though they like to think that they are.
Just because they have agreed to pay you a consultancy fee. It doesn’t mean that you have to become a door mat.
3) Show Your Clients Why You Are Worth The Money
Every once in a while. You are going to get a client bitching to you. About how they can do your job better than you.
In most cases the person moaning is. Going to be a right tight wad.
They are going to be in your face. Insisting that you give them a discount for everything. When this situation arises. You have to be strong.
Assuming that you have done your job properly.
You can easily shut up Mr and Mrs tight wad. By showing them their return on investment. By doing this.
Not only will they think twice about giving you the boot. There is more than a good chance. That tight wad will refer new clients to your business.
4)Never Undersell Yourself To Potential Clients
It might seem like a good idea. To charge less than the competition. For your services. But this strategy is. Not always the best solution.
lowering your prices. Will probably get you more clients.
But are they the type of people that you want to do business with?
You will be dealing with low end clients that have limited budgets.
Who are going to be forever moaning at you.
Large paying clients have deeper pockets. They understand the principle of speculating to accumulate. So they pay more and moan less.
In the beginning you will probably have to rely on the lower end client. To pay the bills. But attracting the larger paying client.
As quickly as possible. Should be your main focus.
Being a web marketing consultant is not a easy way to make money.
It Involves a lot of work and stress. The key to your success is careful planning.
Build your client base slowly and steadily. Never ever promise more than you can deliver. And always learn form your mistakes.
