Around 75 % of the traffic that I get to this blog is either referred or direct.
The reason for this is because…
Over the last few months.
I have been gradually moving away from SEO marketing.
In favor of a more natural approach.
With all of the algorithm changes that Google keeps making.
It no longer made sense to me.
To allow my blog to be, overly reliant on them for traffic.
Its no secret that Social media traffic is on the rise.
Last year, a lot of big name off line companies. Had started to gradually come around to the idea of using social media as a way of increasing brand awareness.
In fact, you could say that 2012 was the year that Social Media finally came of age.
To get the best results from social media, and when I say results…
I mean targeted long term traffic.
You need to fully understand the social community that you are looking to tap into.
What I’m going to show you in this article, are 3 of the better ways of doing this.
1) Sign Up To Only The Best Website’s
Before I sign up to any website (not just social media) I always like to have a good nose around first. To me this stage, is like purchasing your first house or car.
You would not buy either (unless you was a complete idiot) without viewing, if its a house. Or test driving it, if you were buying a car.
Now you and I both know that, all of the top social media website are free to join. So how can I compare signing up to any one of them, too buying a house?
Well…when you consider that, according to a recent Social Media Report
The total time spent on social media in the U.S. across PCs and mobile devices increased 37 percent to 121 billion minutes in July 2012, compared to 88 billion in July 2011.
You can clearly see from these stats.
That you will be spending a lot of time…especially if you are thinking of starting your own work from home business, on social media websites.
And no matter which way you want to slice it, Time = Money even if it appears to be free.
So you need to make sure that whatever time you spend on your chosen social media sites, are beneficial and not a hindrance to your business.
2)Engage With The Community
Being an Internet Marketer, it is hard for me not to pitch a product or service at every given opportunity. But I have learned the hard way, that self promotion and selling is a big no no in social media.
You have to adopt a give if you want to get approach first.
Engage with the community, share their posts, and comment on them.
Follow the influential members who you think might help you the most at some point in the future. Eventually, they will come to trust you and your opinions.
And once you start getting followers who are genuinely interested in the stuff that you are sharing. Then you will be in a good position to slowly start the monetization process.
3)Fill In Your Profile Page
If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you already know what my thoughts are on profile pages.
But just in case its your first time here, let me explain to you just how important they are.
Your profile page will be your biggest asset in social media, and if you need further proof. Then I invite you to have a look at my profile on Gravatar
In terms of Facebook likes. It is by far and away my most popular page anywhere on the Internet.
And the only thing that I did to get all of that traffic action, was to take my time and fill in my profile page properly.
Yes! I know that it can be a right pain in the backside, to have to constantly fill in profile pages.
But as annoying as doing this is, the fact remains that profile pages can drive an awful lot of targeted traffic to your blog.
